News on tourism in Japan

A few days ago, the Japanese government announced some relaxations at the borders. These arrangements allow people with long student or worker visas and vaccinated to enter Japan after an isolation period of only three days.

These measures however did not concern tourists.

However, a ray of hope appeared today.

It was announced that the issue of tourist entry would be examined before the end of 2021. This is not an announcement of the reopening of the borders, but it suggests a possible recovery of tourism in 2022.

From the point of view of the tourism industry in Japan, this reopening would ideally correspond to the beginning of the tourist season in spring (late March-early April).

Conditions such as full vaccination of visitors entering Japan are likely to be expected.

As a reminder, the COVID-19 epidemic is currently at its lowest level since the beginning of 2020 with a total number of daily infections around 200 people nationwide. On Sunday, November 7, for the first time since 2020, no deaths due to COVID have been recorded.
